Civil Air Patrol, Maryland Wing
“Christian Ready made a what otherwise could have been a dreary process into something not only professional, but enjoyable. He was accessible, enthusiastic and knowledgeable throughout the project, and I would not hesitate a moment to work with him again.” —Captain Steven Solomon, Public Affairs Officer
About the Civil Air Patrol
The Civil Air Patrol is the official, all-volunteer civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. CAP's Maryland Wing needed a new site that reflected its commitment to emergency services, cadet programs, and aerospace education.
The project
The design of the site was crafted to reflect CAP's close association with the US Air Force. As such, the site was designed to be visually “connected” to the Air Force’s web site, but have a distinctly Maryland Wing character.
There are several new features on the new site:
- The “Civil Air Patrol Today,” the wing’s syndicated radio program, is available as a podcast on the site.
- News releases are reguarlly published to the site by the wing’s public affairs officer thanks to a news release management system developed for this site.
- An advanced calendar system allows wing, group, and squadron events to be viewed simultaneously.
- A map of the Maryland Wing shows the locations and meeting information of squadrons, allowing users to locate and visit a squadron near them.
- A search engine permits fast searches of all pages, news releases, and calendar events. Results are ranked in order of relevance, allowing the user to quickly find information without having to click through the site’s navigation scheme.
- A content management system which allows staff members to quickly and easily update the site. Staff members can create, edit, and delete pages as needed, as well as restrict pages to members only.
